Sister Caroline Njah, Superior General of the Holy Union Sisters joined over 900 Superiors' General from 75 countries in Rome from 5 to 9 May for the XXIII Plenary Assembly of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG). This was a particularly significant moment for the Church, marked by the recent death of Pope Francis and the anticipation of his successor.
Sister Mary Barron, President of the UISG, opened the Assembly and introduced the theme of the gathering: “Consecrated Life: A Transforming Hope.” In this Jubilee Year and the 60th anniversary of the UISG’s founding, she encouraged participants to be “pilgrims of hope,”
Ordinarily the Assembly closes with an audience with the Pope, but this year the final mass took place at the Church of St. Mary Major where all prayed at the tomb of Pope Francis.

Sister Caroline shared these reflections at the end of the Plenary Assembly:
“ … participating in small group dialogues gave me new ideas and helped me to know that others are walking similar paths. I leave with renewed energy to foster hope within the Congregation and to continue building bridges of compassion, justice, and resilience.”
During the Assembly, Sister Caroline, a native of Cameroon met other Cameroon superiors. At the closing mass, she met priests from Cameroon who were on a Jubilee Pilgrimage and a friend, Sister Theodosia Baki, Superior General of the Teresian Sisters.
At the end of the Assembly, UISG reaffirmed its commitment as "Bearers Of Hope". Click here to read the Final Commitment.
