On 6 August 2026, the Sisters of the Holy Union of the Sacred Hearts in Cameroon celebrated a historic and grace-filled milestone: the 200th Anniversary of the Congregation (1826–2026). The Bicentenary celebration was graced with the Perpetual Profession of Sisters Cecilia Fukah and Gildas Dingha and the Silver Jubilee of Religious Profession of Sisters Elizabeth Ngwe and Pascaline Fon.
A Eucharistic Celebration of Thanksgiving
The Eucharistic celebration brought together family members, friends, clergy, religious, benefactors, collaborators, and faithful from different parts of Cameroon. The vibrant and prayerful liturgy, enriched by joyful singing and cultural expressions, reflected the richness of our Holy Union Charism. At the heart of the celebration was Union: union with the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, union among Sisters, union with the Church, and union with those whom we are called to serve. In a world marked by division and fragmentation, the charism of Union remains a beautiful and prophetic gift.
Two Generous “Yes” for Life
A particularly moving moment was the Perpetual Profession of Sisters Cecilia Fukah and Gildas Dingha. Before God and the Church, they freely offered their lives to Christ in a lifelong commitment to the Congregation. Their “yes” is a witness of hope and a reminder that God continues to call generous hearts to serve His people. May their lives remain a living expression of Christ’s prayer: “That they may all be one.”
The celebration also honored Sisters Elizabeth Ngwe and Pascaline Fon, who gave thanks for 25 years of religious profession. Their Silver Jubilee is a testimony to God’s sustaining grace and to the beauty of persevering in prayer, community, and mission. Their journey is a reminder that vocation is lived through a daily “yes”, a faithful response to God’s call and an ongoing commitment to build communion wherever we are sent.

Union: A Charism for Our Time
The Bicentenary invites us not only to remember the past but also to rediscover the beauty and relevance of our charism of Union. In a world where many experience loneliness, conflict, and division, our call to build communion is more important than ever. The Bicentenary therefore challenges each of us to ask: How can we become, today, living witnesses of Union?
One Family, One Mission
The presence of Sisters Ann Marie and Yvette Sam, representing the General Council, gave a special international dimension to the celebration. Their participation expressed the unity of the Holy Union family across continents and cultures.
The joy of the day was the fruit of months of prayer, preparation, formation, retreat, pilgrimages to significant Holy Union sites, and the dedicated service of organizing committees, liturgy and choir, and many volunteers. In this collaboration, we experienced once again the beauty of Union: many hearts, many gifts, one mission.
Media coverage, including interviews with CRTV and other communication platforms like Radio Evangelium, Bamenda, also helped to share the history, charism, and mission of the Sisters of the Holy Union of the Sacred Hearts in Cameroon with a wider audience.
From 200 Years of Grace to a Future of Hope
The Bicentenary is more than a remembrance of the past. It is a renewed call to continue the mission entrusted to the Congregation by Father Jean-Baptiste Debrabant.
Inspired by the courage of those who went before us and strengthened by God’s unfailing love, the Sisters in Cameroon renew their commitment to proclaim the Gospel through education, healthcare, pastoral ministry, and compassionate social services, especially among those most in need. The Bicentenary reminds us that 200 years is not an ending, but a new beginning. We look back with gratitude, forward with hope, and inward with renewed commitment to our vocation and mission.
May the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary deepen within us the grace of Union. May our communities continue to be places of welcome, healing, reconciliation, and joy. And may every person we encounter experience something of God’s tenderness and love. With grateful hearts and renewed zeal, the Holy Union family in Cameroon continues the journey united in Christ, united in mission, and united in love.
