In August 2024, three members of the US Area, Sisters Paula Coelho, Ann Kernan, and Carol Regan formed a Bicentennial Project Planning Committee and with the blessing of the General Council and the Area Leadership Teams in Cameroon, Tanzania and the Unted States began to organize an enrichment program involving sisters from the three Areas. Conceived as a response to the challenge of the 2023 Collegial Assembly to search for “new orientations in formation”, the nine-week program has three dimensions: spirituality, interculturality, and advancing participants’ English language writing skills.
Program participants were Eugenia Mshana and Scholastica Mhea from Tanzania, Shallotte Kum and Véronique Metiendjo from Cameroon and the sisters of the US Area (as companions in community, presenters, drivers, and supporters through conversation, prayer, and interest). After two days of Orientation and a Welcome Picnic at a park on the waters of Narragansett Bay at the end of August, classes, presentations, and cultural site visits began. Sisters agreed that during the program they all learned a lot … about themselves, each other, their Areas, and our world!
